New Goods

As promised, a post on all the things I’ve found over the past week. I didn’t get to go to the car boot this weekend but looking through all of these again makes up for that!

Vintage glass necklace and miniature pen knifeVintage leather watches

First up, jewellery! The watches are from an antique fair and the cream one was only 50p! Granted it doesn’t work, but the face will be easy to change because of the way it’s fixed to the strap. They’re both a little tarnished, but that’s how I like my stuff. The tiny little penknife actually came in a novelty whittling kit and I’m going to use it as a pendant.

Vintage Kensitas silk cigarette flowersVintage henna shampoo

Those delightful little floral things are cigarette silks from the 1930s and are now some of the prettiest, most useless, things I own. I love them! And I can’t resist a bit of pretty vintage packaging so the henna shampoo came home with me from the antique fair.

Finally, a couple of pairs of shoes. The brogues are definitely my best car boot find so far. I think they’re 60s/70s and they cost me a meager £2.00. I nearly jumped for joy when the man told me the price! Now I’m curious to know, what’s been your best thrift find so far?

  1. what great finds! we don't have any of that stuff around here *sigh*…those flowery things are absolutely darling!and those shoes! my best thing would be a Hanae Mori silk scarf from around 30 cents… or maybe a lovely 70s sundress for 2$? I really can't decide on this one.

  2. I think I would lay down my life for those shoes!

I have many wonderful finds but one of the best has to be a three tier cake stand for £1.50. I totally screamed when I saw it!

  3. I really like the antique Jewelry and watches. It's alright if they don't work..as long as they look fabulous. We all have cell phones these days right?

  4. You're so lucky to be able to find these things! This always reminds me how bad Portugal sucks in this matter of thrifting. The brown shoes are so beautifuuul! I'm dreaming of ones like those for ages :D!

  5. i really love the amber pendant

    and the cigarette silks

    and the brogues

    SO MANy pretty things.

i once received a free polaroid camera from a thrift store i frequent.

    and it works really well!

  6. Such lucky finds! The penknife is great – and those shoes! And the henna package! Gosh, old packaging beats anything we have today, for certain. It's tough to say what my best-ever thrift find has been… I have a few old hand-beaded flapper necklaces and headbands that I picked up for next to nothing, they are definite favorites…

  7. I don't know, it's hard to say what my best find would be. Lately, I'm excited about a pair of 50's shorts I got for $3 and a pair of 70's brown leather low platform wedges for $2.50.

The cigarette silks would make lovely patches on a little cropped denim jacket maybe?

  8. How wonderful! Everything in this post is such a great find, and things I would definitely like for my own treasure box. The brogues are especially wonderful.
Your blog is so gorgeous and inspiring. The collages you make are really pretty.

  16. I am 100% completely jealous of those shoes. They're perfect! Whenever I spot a nice pair at a carboot, I get them home and realise it'll cost loads to get them reheeled :(.

  17. Thanks a lot for telling me who the photographer was! I found that photo on some random blog some time ago. I'm really glad to know who the photographer is, she has amazing work there on the site! :D

  18. I love the way that you have displayed everything on your blog. How to you make your photos appear like cut outs??? Is it the magic of photoshop?

  19. I was ooeing over your jewelery finds until I scrolled down and saw your brogues, at which point I choked on my tea and suffered a very bad case of thrift envy. They are so GORGEOUS, you must, must, post a photo wearing them. Enjoy them!!

  20. Yeah, those brogues are so great. So are the other pair, the Bally dove grey ones.. what a great blog, Hannah. How did you put this all together? Did you scan in found bits of paper? I work in photoshop, too, so I can appreciate: this took a lot of care & work. I love the new Rust and Lace, too.

If you have a chance, please do check out my blog which is just a few months older than yours:

I'm putting both yours on my blog roll as I'm expecting greatness from you – if you'd like to add me to yours, it would be an honour. I'm keeping yours up anyway, because I really like it.

  21. hello!

thanks for your comment, i was going to reply on my blog but i was worried you might not see it.

anyway, of course, that's fine, they're not that aesthetically pleasing are they? let's be frank! so i admire your design integrity and will perhaps apply it a bit more myself in the future. just know that you are admired and appreciated!

  22. found you thru tea for joy and am completely in love with all your photos and collages! (adding you to my blog list now)….and, yes, i love the brogues too :)

  23. Holy moly, those oxfords are PERFECT. I have yet to find a pair I like and those are them, and so cheap! What a find.

My best thrift find…hrm. that's hard. Lately, it's been my blue and white striped 70's dress–so diaphanous and classy
