The Glasshouse

Today we visited the glasshouses of Edinburgh’s Royal Botanical Gardens. I think there were ten of them in total, with a small aquarium at the end. This glasshouse has a giant pond inside, and sometimes it’s covered in giant lilies. It’s so beautiful, but difficult to get photos of because it’s so humid, as are several of the other glasshouses. Any misty effects you can see above are due to my camera fogging up!

Everything I’m wearing is either vintage or thrifted, besides my bag, which Anabela kindly sent me in return for using some of my photos in her shop listing. I’ve been holding off sharing it for a while because I wanted to photograph it when the blossoms were out but in the end I couldn’t wait. It kind of felt like it was spring being in the glasshouses anyway, even if it was freezing outside.

Oh, on a bit of a sidenote: those of you using Google Reader to subscribe, are my posts appearing in the right order in your feed?

  1. I love the glasshouses at the Botanics! It always reminds me of terrifying my parents by trying to step on to one of those massive lily pads when I was little. Wonderful photos, I tried to get some in there a couple of months ago but they all came out foggy :( I adore the colours in the fourth one.

    xoxo

  2. These photos are beautiful, especially the first one- it’s so amazingly gorgeous. And your outfit! And everything! I love every single thing.

  3. Thanks to these pictures I’ve just figured out what is going on ^^
I didn’t think that I was following this blog, but I see it’s a change over haha. Took me a while.
I love those big pink flowers, and venus fly traps, awesome!!

  4. Gorgeous photos. There’s a glasshouse near where I live that has a giant pond too. When I was little I’d always be too scared to go close to the edge for fear of falling in haha. This post kinda makes me want to go pay it a visit now.

  5. How lovely. I like the effect that the humidity gives – it makes things a little more magical. And yes – I’m following on Google and the posts here are showing up, also on my seperate RSS feed. Nothing to worry about :)

  6. I visited the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew, London last September, I loved it there! There is a chance I will be visiting Edinbrugh this summer and I didn’t yet know they had these gardens to. Thanks for sharing ^^ x

  7. These photos are beautiful, especially the first one, and the bag looks perfect in the surroundings of the beautiful botannical gardens.

I am using bloglovin, and your posts didn’t appear in the right order at first, but they are all sorted now!

  8. I really love botanic gardens – I’ve never visited the ones in Edinburgh, but I used to go to the ones in Glasgow when I lived there – I especially liked to go in the winter when it’s freezing outside and boiling hot in the greenhouse – snow is best! Your pictures are beautiful, as is your new layout – very clean and simple, I really like it.

It seems to be working beautifully in my google reader.

  9. I love your new blog name and layout! It’s beautiful :-)

I really want to visit Edinburgh, again. I’ve been once… to the zoo and along the highstreet but I never made a point of exploring little places like that! It’s now on my to-do list.

    Beautiful outfit and photographs.

  10. Such a beautiful outfit on a beautiful girl in a beautiful setting! This must have been one amazing day! Enjoy your weekend!
    xoxo,

  11. Oh my god, these photos are just stunning. I haven’t been to botanical gardens in years, since I was a kid, and I’m now desperate to go and take photographs! You look gorgeous too, I love your dress!

  12. I’m thinking of the nicest way to say this.Everything I liked about hello mr fox has disappeared. You’ve obviously been thinking about making hello mr fox more profitable and commercial for quite some time and in the process it has lost its colour and charm.
    Your ex-reader,
    Emily.

    1. I’m sorry you feel that way Emily. That’s not what I had on my mind at all, it’s just unfortunate that the change has coincided with my taking on sponsors (something I’m not even entirely set on yet but we’ll see). I honestly just felt like Hello Mr Fox was starting to feel a little cluttered and claustrophobic and I wanted something simpler and cleaner, so here we are. I’ve had Hello Mr Fox for almost two and a half years and when I started it I hardly even knew what I was doing. Fast forward a couple of years down the line and I have a much better idea of how I want things to be. I put a lot of hard work, effort and love into my blog (so much of which you don’t even see because it’s all behind the scenes) and I have no intention of ever letting anybody make it something I don’t want it to be. To host a blog at WordPress also costs money, which I don’t mind paying because I think all the additional features it offers are fantastic (I wouldn’t be able to reply to your comment like this on Blogger) so is it really that much of a problem that I take on a few sponsors every month, just to help cover the costs?

  13. These pictures are absolutely lovely. I have never made it to the Botanics in Edinburgh, but I will certainly make the effort now. I am, however, a regular haunter of the St Andrews Botanic gardens and would highly recommend them if you ever happen to be in the area.
I adore the new blog. The header is absolutely perfect.
    Love,
    Rachel.

  14. Just found you through bloglovin’ this morning — what beautiful photos! I especially love the misty effect, it’s even better somehow that it was accidental!

  15. I really love the new floral header! I attempted to make a WordPress blog but the header defeated me.

  16. Hello! Just thought i should say that you got a small mention in the Independent on Sunday, in the supplement.

Also, I think your new blog is great, just like your previous one. Sponsors are a good idea, especially when you can be in a position to offer affordable advertising to small creative businesses and other blogs and, at the same time making a little bit of extra cash by using your talents to earn it? I think that’s the way blog-land works, by all helping each other out.

    Well done from me! x

  17. As you know already, I’m in love with your new blog. I guess I’ve been lagging behind, so I don’t know why you decided to switch to a new name and WordPress. I apologize. Nevertheless, I love the new look and new name. Foxtail & Fern is an amazing name. But admittedly, I do like the previous banner. I love the logo, it’s very iconic!

I love these glasshouse photos. Last spring, I visited San Francisco’s Conservatory of Flowers, it’s exactly the same. I need to go back and get some outfit photos for the blog!

    Hope you’re well, Hannah!

  18. The photography is beautiful and so are you! I love the dress, where’s it from? Love this blog, it’s nice to read a blog so close to home! :)

  19. This is not how I remembered Hello Mr. fox to be and I am pleasantly surprised. The content is still amazing but it’s like the gorgeous photos have been displayed in a frame that is fitting for them. I like this change and wish you all the best with your new endeavors.

    Love

  20. these pictures are so gorgeous! i love glass houses + botanical gardens we always visit some in holiday down cornwall/ devon this one deffinatey looks amazing.
the bag you have is a lovely tote perfect for spring

  21. Beautiful pictures and what a wonderful place! It looks like such wonderful, relaxing afternoon strolling around these gardens (funny tidbit, I noticed everyone saying “botanic” and I’ve always called them “botanical gardens” but maybe that’s just the name of the ones near my house in Arizona). Anyway, aside from the beautiful pics I’m also in love with your dress and shoes, great outfit! Also, you have really pretty hair! And I saw a comment above, I agree, accepting sponsors I totally understandable, soo much work does go on behind the scenes and your blog looks great!
