Return to Calke Abbey

A return visit to this magical relic was inevitable, really. It’s still my favourite.

  1. I think I might have just… lost a bit of my ability to speak just now. Wow. That shot of the blue room with the taxidermy is just unbelievable. (and so are all the others and the place in general) Thank you for sharing!

  2. Such beautiful photographs! They all have their own mysterious and magical feel about them. It must have been so wonderful to explore this place.

  3. I love beautiful old homes, and this one is as good as it gets! Beautiful patterned wallpaper gets me every time, and I love the photo of the numbered seashells. Looking at these photos make me feel like I should snap pictures when I’m at estate sales. While none of the houses are quite as incredible as this one, they’re certainly inspiring in their own right.

  4. This looks wonderful, like a long-forgotten tale. Saved it in my bookmarks – hopefully, one day, I will visit England again.

  5. Is it weird that I want to live there because of the way it is decorated? I always told myself if ever I won the lotto or had enough money I’d make a “period room” and decorate it from some past time period and then name it the Jane Austen Room or something weird like the White House does.

  6. Last time you posted about this my heart skipped a bit and now it just skipped a few more. I literally can not wait to visit this, it’s literally what my dreams are made of. xx

  7. I’m always drawn to big old homes and I’ve never been inside homes like this my whole life. I’m dying of curiosity to get a glimpse.
